A: See our Privacy Policy.
Q: How does DTF compare to DTG printing?
A: DTF and DTG (direct-to-garment) are digital printing methods, but they have key differences. DTG prints directly onto the fabric, often requiring pretreatment, and is limited in garment types and print placement. DTF prints onto a film, eliminating the need for pretreatment and offering greater materials and placement flexibility. While both can be expensive and require some artwork preparation, DTF is generally considered easier to learn.
Q: Why should I choose DTF
A: DTF is ideal for smaller runs and complex multi-color designs, and offers great flexibility. many screen printers use DRF for complex jobs to free up their screen printing equipment.
Q: What are the advantages of DTF over other transfer methods like heat transfer vinyl or sublimation?
A: DTF offers several advantages. Unlike heat transfer vinyl, DTF doesn't require cutting or weeding. Compared to sublimation, DTF can be used on a wider range of fabrics, including cotton, and works on both light and dark-colored garments.
Q: How durable are DTF transfers?
A: DTF transfers are known for their durability and wash fastness when applied correctly. Following the proper care instructions (washing inside out, cold water, tumble dry low) will help prolong the life of the print.
Q: How do I apply a DTF transfer?
A: You'll need a heat press, a protective sheet like parchment paper or Teflon sheet, and potentially a lint roller to clean the fabric before applying the transfer. The process involves positioning the transfer on the garment, applying heat and pressure according to the transfer supplier's instructions, and then peeling off the film. A second press with parchment paper is often recommended.
Q: How should I wash a garment with a transfer?
A: Keep your designs looking fresh by washing your garment inside-out in cold water. Tumble dry on low or air dry, and avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Your transfer will thank you!
Q: How long do transfers last in storage?
A: DTF transfers can last up to 6-12 months if stored properly. Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and they’ll be ready to use when inspiration strikes.
Q: What should I do if my transfer starts to peel?
A: If your transfer starts to peel, reheat the area with your heat press (or iron with parchment paper as a barrier), then press again with medium pressure for a few more seconds. This should help re-bond the transfer and keep it looking as good as new.
Q: What design techniques should I avoid in my DTF prints to maximize quality?
A: We recommend ensuring your design is at the desired size, not mirrored, and without background parts. Additionally, avoid using grayscale gradients, transparency effects, neon effects, and glow effects for optimal results.
Q: How can I check the status of my order?
A: Chat with us on our website dtf.shirtspace.com, call 877-285-7606, or email dtf@shirtspace.com.
